The Gummarusfeesten is an event that happens only every 25 years in Lier, Belgium. During the “Lierse Ommegang”, there is not only a parade in the dity, but also a historical recreation of events that happened at the end of the 15th century. This panorama was taken in the Beguinage where a historic scene is unfolding – a doctor is trying to sell a “cure for everything” to the audience.

The most prominent building on this photo, on the corner of E 23 Street and Broadway, is the famous Flatiron Building , a 22 story Beaux-Arts building completed in 1902 and characterised by its triangular shape with a sharp angle. To the right across the street of the Flatiron building you can see the International Toy Center, a 16 story renaissance revival office building completed in 1909.On the oposite side of the FlatIron building through the trees, you can the the Metropolitan Life North building and the Metropolitan Life tower (with the clock) being hit by the bright sunlight.  The Metropolitan Life tower was originally an office building for the Metroplitan Life Insurance Company which is now converted into a hotel. To the left of the Metroplitan Life Building is the Merchandise Mart Building, a 42 story international style office building completed in 1974. The tall building to the right of the Metroplitan Life tower is One Madison Park, a luxury residential condominium tower located on 23rd street between Broadway and Park Avenue. You can also see the entrance to Madison Square park, a 6.2 acre, 2.5 hectare, park in Manhattan, New York City. At the entrance of the park is a statue of William H Seward, who was the Secretary of state under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. In the photo, you can also see the entrance to the 23 Street Station subway stop.If you would like to explore the area further, I recommend wikimapia which lists a lot of informatoin about the buildings around the park.
