The Gay Liberation monument, created by George Segal, is located in Christopher park in New York City. It honors the gay rights movement and the Stonewall riots that started the gay liberation movement.  You can see the Stonewall Inn, where the movement originally started, through a gap in the trees – it is a low building with all the rainbow flags. The sculpture is made from bronze and finished with a white-painted finished. Although the work was originally approved by 1982, it was only dedicated in 1992 due to a planned renovation of Christopher park, completed in 1985, and public opposition.
